I started this blog several years ago with no intention other than to feed my narcissism and blast my thoughts on the internet for everyone to read. However, if I am like most people, then it seems most people have no desire to read someone’s pointless ramblings. Left neglected for some months, in December of 2010 I decided on a New Year’s resolution. It would be to use this blog as an opportunity to work on my writing skills through creative non-fiction short stories. While it is obvious in each post that my writing style needs refining, little by little I feel I am making progress.
I treat each blog like a “scene”–a snippet from my life, relayed in the most truthful way I can articulate. It is therapeutic, and I have found that it has also expanded my community and the way I relate to those in my life about my life.
Most importantly, it has redefined my understanding of the word “true.” No longer does true mean “factual,” relying solely on scientific accuracy. Rather, what is true is a conglomeration of the facts, the many factors underlying the reality of each “scene” I narrate, as well as the complexity of each individual in the scenes, and, of course, the way my reception of that reality shapes me. As a Christian, this endeavor to fulfill my New Year’s resolution has unexpectedly allowed me to (hopefully) see more clearly the way that the Gospel writers understood “truth.”
For this reason, even if no one else reads it, I will continue to blog.
